Role Overview:
As a Communications Associate, you'll be the face of Spotify Communications in East Africa, acting as a key point of contact for our media and influencer partners in the region. You will work closely with the Head of Communications, SSA, and the West Africa Communications Associate to execute impactful PR campaigns and build strong relationships with key stakeholders. Your primary focus will be on proactive and reactive press office management, media & influencer relations, event management, content development, and executing local PR strategies in East Africa.
Role Overview:
- Establish and manage a press office in East Africa based in Nairobi, planning and executing localised PR campaigns in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania.
- Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day execution of PR activities in the region, ensuring seamless communication with the local PR agency in Nairobi.
- Act as the main point of contact for the PR agency in East Africa.
- Develop localised press releases, media alerts, data-driven storytelling, and outreach materials tailored to East African audiences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts, influencers, and stakeholders in the region.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Growth, Consumer Marketing, Social, Music) to align communication strategies with broader business goals.
- Monitor, analyse, and report on the performance of PR campaigns, providing insights to optimise future efforts.
- Provide support for risk communication in East African markets.
- Contribute to the re-ignition and management of the Spotify VIP program in Kenya and build out one for East Africa.
- Focus on tailored storytelling efforts that highlight Spotify's impact and relevance in East Africa. Manage press coverage and ensure reporting aligns with SSA objectives, maintaining a positive media presence.
- Provide local cultural insights and recommendations to enhance the localisation and relevance of content.
- Report directly to the Head of Communications, SSA, and collaborate with the West Africa Communications Associate to ensure a cohesive approach to communications across SSA.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, or a similar role, preferably within the technology or entertainment industry.
- Existing strong relationships with key media contacts in Kenya is a MUST, and pre-existing media relationships in Uganda and Tanzania are highly advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful PR campaigns.
- In-depth understanding of the East African media landscape and cultural nuances.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
